Tex Hex - Bravestarr by JenL Tex Hex - Bravestarr by JenL
Servant of the monsterous evil Stampede, notorious outlaw, obsessed with obtaining kerium, and the leader of his own gang. It's Tex Hex, the magic casting purple zombie-looking cowboy from the distant planet of New Texas.

I really enjoyed drawing this guy. Tex Hex is such a fun villian to watch in the Bravestarr cartoon, and was just as fun to draw. I couldn't resist posing him doing a magic casting pose since despite having a gun he tends to fight more with magic. I didn't do anything fancy with the shading since I didn't want to take away from the original pencil shading. So I kept it as just the pencil drawing with flat colors and a background.

I made that wanted poster in the background from scratch in photoshop. That thing was harder than it had to be. I used a sketch I had doodled during class for the wanted portait. And the words and background paper were done in photoshop.

Bravestarr is a pretty awesome cartoon. One of the best from the 1980s. Seriously, go look it up on youtube or hulu. It's worth watching. =)

Fun fact: Tex Hex was meant for Filmation's Ghostbusters but someone pulled him from it and based Bravestarr around him.

A jerk indeed. But a oddly badass one.
Btw, is he meant to be some kinda of alien/human hybrid? Cause even before he got his powers he had purple skin and reddish-pink hair, and everyone's cool with it (but since its years into the future and anything is possible, then that's fine.)
Even so, GOOD JOB!!!

According to the director of Bravestarr, Tex Hex's purple skin was a decision on the character designers part. He's pure human. Just Filmation had a thing for making their villains oddly colorful. =)

Ah, well, its the future, who knows? And a cartoon...I'm questioning Cartoon Physics again. Darn it...

Another great wanted poster! Are you going to do any other villains from the show?

I don't know if you know this or not. But Tex is not a zombie. Actually. . .he's cursed by a spell from Stampede that's so intense, that it physically changed his appearance. There are a couple of episodes where Stampede almost does him in. And Tex is scared to death. So you can tell he's very much alive. lol. Also, I love his character because he's the only villain I've ever known, to have remorse for his actions.
