King Candy meets Pitch

Description

Pitch from the movie "Rise of the Guardians" and King Candy from the movie "Wreck-It Ralph". Both movies came out around the same time but it's hard for me to pick a favorite since they both have such awesome villains. =)

King Candy and Pitch. I love these guys. And most of all I love the absolute contrast between them. They're both villains but they are polar opposites in terms of theme and execution of their villainous ways.

You have the short, colorful and ever cheerful king of the candy themed racing game Sugar Rush who hangs out with kids. And then you have the boogeyman with his monotone theme, hiding under beds, commands shadows and lives to scare children.

Here's the ironic part, guess which of these two villains is more evil.

If you guessed Pitch then you're wrong since despite Pitch's dark and shadowy theme and fear inducing nature, his purpose was actually to protect children. (A horribly outdated method of protection using fear to scare kids into staying away from danger, that was until he was replaced by the other Guardians who use positive methods instead for guarding the children of the world.) He's not really out to kill anyone. Instead his motivation was revenge on the other Guardians for taking away his purpose in life which reduced him to a myth who hides under beds that no one believes in anymore.

King Candy on the other hand may look nice and friendly, but inside he's a real monster. (If you've watched "Wreck-It Ralph" then you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.) This guy is the prime example of looks being deceiving. Oh, he may hang out with kids, act all sweet and sugary and throw candy around, but he's more than willing to kill to get what he wants. He's a classic case of selfishness and greed consuming oneself and everything around them all for the sake of personal gain.

I like these types of character dynamics. The cute little guy who's really bad on the inside and the creepy scary dude who's just misunderstood.

I just had to draw these two. Love em both. They each have their own irresistible charm. =P

Two villains from two animated movies of the same month and same year, I actually had a tough time in 2012 because of this end of the world problem, which was actually the end of the Mayan calendar.
